How to make first steps to create your dream project
As I've mentioned before after 2 years of game development I made a decision to move on and try to run my own startup. What problems you face when you run into such adventure?
- How much time I need to launch first working model or minimum viable product (MVP)?
- Can I handle all processes by myself?
- Is some great idea enough to get investments?
My answers that day and now are so different and I explain you it now:
Imagine that you have an idea and plan how to implement this in MVP. How much time it would takes? Probably you think it would takes from 3 to 6 month. Now double this period. Yes, you have to be ready spend next year without any vacations and work more than 8 hours per day.
All this time you may have hard moments and lack of motivation. That is why you need partner. A person who will help you to handle this. A person who will motivate you. A person with whom you can share your thoughts, expectations and emotions. Remember that the hapiness only real when shared (try to remember where you have already hear this words).
Once I wanted to apply Y Combinator (funding program for early stage startups). I was looking for great idea some weeks. Instead of searching a problem to solve I focused myself on searching ideas that not related to me. Then I saw a previous presentations of participants and realize that their first idea was so far from what they have achieve after. No matter how great your idea is, it matters only if you have good results on it. How to know that your idea is good and you can start implement it? It is simple. The idea:
- has to solve real problem,
- has to be scaleable,
- hasn't any real implementation or improvement,
After you make your thoughts clear and make your first steps I can congratulate you. You have avoid my mistakes, because I thought that I could do it during 3 month, alone and get early investments only based on my idea.
Small notice: Before running into some crazy startup save enough money to survive without any earnings for one year or more)
